TECHNICAL DIRECTOR
The Bedford Park Festival is a highly regarded arts festival taking place in Chiswick each year. It hosts a number of events over a fortnight in a number of local venues. As Technical Director I am responsible for all things technical for the festival. As part of this I design a bespoke system for each venue that is capable of catering for the wide variety of events that take place. I manage the artists and presenters to ensure that their technical requirements are met and that they are properly taken care of. I then manage the day to day running of the events ensuring that the technical aspects run smoothly, and that artists and guests alike are catered for safely and professionally. A lot of work goes into making sure that the wide array of events run to a high level. LIGHTING DESIGNER | TECHNICAL DIRECTOR SNAG a review by VERNON THOMPSON
An evening of sparkling one-liners combined with great poignancy make this a must-see – it only runs til Saturday but The Tabard Theatre has been so delighted with the response to American playwright and director Tony Traxler’s play that they have invited him back next year for an extended run. To find this is his first full- length play is surprising, given how mature is the structure and character development, and how the action fizzes with fun and bristles with pathos alternately. Laurel unearths a bundle of diaries, which take her on a life-changing trip to a fertility clinic in New York. Lauren Powell in the main role is a very sympathetic and convincing presence while Richard Scott contributes a high quality performance as her lawyer. Iskander Najmudin as her dead gay father, gives a generous performance, remaining still for long periods to give the focus to other actors but seizing his moment well when in the limelight. A simple set and clever lighting design is used very effectively to suggest a multitude of different settings. Snag is transferring to New York and Los Angeles in 2020, and runs at the Tabard Theatre from 30 April-4 May. Performances take place Tuesday-Saturday at 7.30pm. TECHNICAL DIRECTOR
The Chiswick Book Festival is one of London’s highly regarded literary festivals. The main festival takes place over four days and includes a number of venues including Chiswick House. This is a uniquely challenging festival as there are so many back-to-back presentations/talks. For both the Saturday and Sunday, we have a back-to-back programme across a number of venues often only allowing 15 minutes change over as the public arrive for the next event. As part of my role, I have to design a bespoke system for each venue ensuring a high-quality listening experience for all guests. This has to cater for a large number of presenters in an acoustically difficult environment. My role also includes managing the authors technical requirement and ensuring that they are properly taken care of during the festival. As the event has a high profile in the wider community, I have to work with the media to ensure they are able to achieve the coverage that they want whilst not imposing on the guests experience at the festival.
